Mat Pilates with a Cause: Mental Health

Our Summer Series of Donation-Based Pilates has been nothing short of extraordinary. Building community, breaking down barriers of access to the Pilates practice is exactly why we this was the focus for our Summer.

ADDING A LAYER - Classic to the Pilates practice, we are adding a layer to this pivotal Summer Series for the last three sessions. No matter what you do for fitness, the repeating factor for why you do that activity beside benefits to the physical body is that dopamine fix and its effect on your mental wellness. ‘Exercise helps prevent and improve many health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis. Research on depression, anxiety and exercise shows that the mental health and physical benefits of exercise also can help mood get better and lessen anxiety’ (1. Mayo Clinic, Dec 2023.) .

For our final three sessions of this Summer Series we will be putting 50% of the proceeds from your donations towards ÓRALE’s Health Justice pillar. ÓRALE is a powerful intergenerational movement of immigrants abolishing oppressive systems and creating liberatory practices grounded in healing, love, and justice (2. ÓRALE, Health Justice, 2026) .

Additionally, we are elated to share that our final of iteration of the Summer Series on September 9 at Trademark Brewing in Long Beach, will be aligning with Fitness for Hope’s annual fundraising efforts to inspire hope and support those who are struggling, as well as remember those that we have lost to suicide (3. Fitness for Hope, Annual Fundraiser, 2026).

WHY MENTAL HEALTH & IMMIGRANTS? Getting a little personal. I am generation DREAMER. Fortunate to be on the other side of this process but I know full well the mental health battle of living on the margins of society when you have to exist with no legal status. Staying active kept me from going off the deep end. No one should be alone in that.

So if you are feeling alone in whatever life has thrown at you, consider joining us at one of our last 3 sessions: July 25, August 5 or September 9. We have eliminated the budget and physical ability barriers. We invite you to join us this Summer! REGISTRATION DETAILS here »
